Abstract PL
Abstract EN
The study is based on the concept of news values and discourse analysis, using mainly Discourse News Values Analysis (DNVA). DNVA analyzes the construction of news values in the text, including visual elements. 182 visual elements of fake news from Poland, Czech Republic, and Slovakia, originating from social media, were studied. The study analyzed the structure, denotation, function, and news values updated by visual messages accompanying fake news. The results showed that the dominant image format in fake news is the realistic photograph, while the function is to present evidence and make the message more credible. Visual news values in fake news differ from those in real news mainly in the higher concentration on presenting politicians (eliteness) and a more negative and critical vision of the world (negativity). They are also less personalized.
