Abstract PL
Abstract EN
The duel was a traditional institution of both criminal law and sociology, which has undergone major transformations throughout history. It was approached differently in antiquity, differently in the Middle Ages and still differently in modern times, where it became a kind of privilege of the aristocracy as well as the military and intellectual elite of society. The subject of this article is precisely the distinction between these approaches and contains an unique novelty - the definition of a duel and its legal composition developed by Wladyslaw Sobolewski and included in a never-before-published typescript re-discovered by the author of the text.
