The article’s primary goal is to present a new research perspective for the studies on Central and Eastern European legal education after communism. This paper intends to show the studies’ potential for the general university system in CEE and legal education from a historical perspective. The description of the broad picture of academic education in the region seems to be essential for answering the primary question: are we dealing with post- communist legal education, or may the deficits of contemporary legal academia exist ‘deeper’ in the regional experience of the past?
