This chapter describes the relationship between women’s position in the dual labour market, their acculturation orientations, and their endo- and exogamous choices of life partners using the example of Polish women living in Madrid, Spain. The chapter is built around the story of Patrycja, which was treated as a primary case, but other cases were included to broaden the interpretation. The analysed data consists of 18 semi-structured, in-depth interviews conducted as part of a research project focusing on the acculturation strategies within the families of Polish descent living in Spain. Qualitative data analysis was conducted using template analysis, supplemented by bottom-up emerging themes. Results suggest that access to the primary sector of the labour market resulted in a greater chance of establishing exogamous relationships, while working in the secondary sector usually involved limited access to the host community development of endogamous relationships. Factors such as moment of arrival, acculturation orientations, socio-economic status (primarily education), and knowledge of Spanish language played an important role in labour market positioning. Individual life circumstances served as a context for decision-making and choosing life partners.
