| dc.abstract.en | This chapter looks at the use of ICTs in migration management, specifically how states use these technologies to communicate with and provide services to migrants, particularly Ukrainian forced migrants. It investigates the function of ICTs in disseminating information and facilitating access to public services as a migration-management tool. It examines both governmental policies and how migrants use available resources. Using a wide range of academic literature, migrants' interviews, focus groups with migrants, Local Advisory Boards (LAB) meetings, and expert interviews, this chapter provides a comprehensive descriptive study of current trends in the deployment of technologies during various stages of migration. These stages include border crossing and entry, asylum application procedures, and the processing of residence permits. The accessibility of digital space has facilitated the rapid establishment of communication channels and services for migrants. Analyses of official websites, platforms, and applications show that Central and Eastern European (CEE) governments use Internet-based tools to engage with migrants and provide public services. However, the degree to which these tools provide up-to-date information in migrants' languages differs. The solutions adopted by Poland, Czechia, Slovakia, and Hungary are briefly described, and the use of Polish digital id diia.pl as an entry point for providing digital public services is examined. This innovation offers valuable lessons that are unprecedented in Poland and the region. | |
