Somaesthetics and the political potential of taste

StatusVoR
The article deals with food as a vehicle for political and social symbolism. The main categories of analysis are “somatic style” introduced by Richard Shusterman and “gastronativism” by Fabio Parasecoli. These concepts are used to analyze the main themes of food in Poland. Particular attention is focused on eating before and after the transition from communism to democracy, with food becoming a determinant of political attitudes that divided society into supporters of conservatism and modernizers.
