Double Standards? Exploring Acculturation Preferences Profiles and Perceived Cultural Distance Toward People from Ukraine and the Middle East in Poland

dc.abstract.enThis study examined Poles’ acculturation preferences profiles toward two groups: people from Ukraine and the Middle East, and their relation to perceived cultural distance. The study framework emphasizes the juxtaposition of media and political narratives surrounding migrants arriving in Poland. Representative data from 924 participants was analysed. Regarding the preference toward individuals from Ukraine, the analysis revealed four preference clusters (exclusion, integration, assimilation, and diffuse), with greater perceived cultural distance among those favouring exclusion and assimilation. Regarding attitudes toward people from the Middle East, only two preference clusters emerged (exclusion and diffuse), with those preferring exclusion perceiving greater cultural distance.
